List of Destinations To Visit In Your Lifetime

Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany

The 19th-century castle sits above the village of Hohenschwangau in south-west Bavaria. Built as a retreat for King Ludwig II in 1869, the Romanesque-style palace has been an inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle and has appeared in movies such as "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" (1968) and "The Great Escape" (1963). Every year, it attracts more than 1.3 million tourists.

Chateau de Chambord, France

One of the most recognizable châteaus in the world, the palace featuring French Renaissance architecture was built as a hunting lodge for King Francis I in 1547. Consisting of 440 rooms and 84 staircases, the château houses double-helix staircase, leading to the great lantern tower and the rooftop.

Tunnel of Love, Ukraine

Surrounded by green arches, this fairytale-like tunnel is located near Klevan. It's believed that if the couple's love is true and they make a wish there, it will come true. From the end of May to the end of August, the unusual rail route is totally green.

Lake Bled, Slovenia

Located in the picturesque surrounding of the Julian Alps, this beautiful lake features a tiny quaint island with a 170-feet-tall (51.8 meter) church. It is considered lucky for the groom if he carries his bride up the Baroque stairway before ringing of the bell and making a wish there.

The Dark Hedges, Ireland

The tunnel-like passage is made of intertwined beech trees that planted in the 18th century by the Stuart family on the path leading up to their Georgian mansion. The road, surrounded by bent tree trunks and gnarled branches, has featured in background in many movies and television shows, including "Game of Thrones” (2011-present).

St. Basil's Cathedral, Russia

Once a church, now a museum, this popular landmark was built in 1561 to commemorate the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan. Located in the Red Square of Moscow, the building features unique Russian architecture with nine main chapels. Since 1990, it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Palace of Versailles, France

One of the largest castles in the world, this French royal residence is known for its manicured gardens and opulent interiors. The most famous room of the palace, Hall of Mirrors, features 17 mirror-clad arches and each of them contains 21 mirrors. Comprising 2,143 windows, 1,252 fireplaces, and 67 staircases, this palace became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.

Waitomo Glowworm Caves, New Zealand

One of the natural wonders, this cave is famous for its limestone formations and thousands of indigenous Arachnocampa luminosa glowworms that cover the ceiling to create a star-lit sky impression. The glowworms, found exclusively in New Zealand, are around the size of an average mosquito.

Peleș Castle, Romania

The Neo-Renaissance castle, built between 1873 and 1914, served as the summer house for the royal family until 1947. It has 160 rooms adorned with the finest examples of European art, crystal chandeliers and German stained-glass windows. The castle was featured in "The Brothers Bloom" (2009).
